Eleven Contributors Prompted $28K in Penalties Paid by Walker Campaign
March 3, 2016
Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s campaign paid a $28,150 penalty in 2015 for accepting contributions from 11 individuals who exceeded the $10,000 individual limit to statewide candidates in an election cycle by contributing between $11,000 and $15,500 to the governor.
Topping the list (see table below) of excessive contributions to Walker was $15,500 from David Lynch, of Burlington, Wis., owner of Lynch Chevrolet; $15,000 from John Koss, of River Hills, Wis., retired chair of Koss Corp.; and $13,000 each from Raymond Debbane, of Greenwich, Conn., president of Invus Group, and David Grainger, of Lake Forest, Ill., chairman of W.W. Grainger.
The excessive contributions were made to Walker in 2013 and 2014 and totaled $138,150, or $28,150 over the total allowable limit of $110,000 for the 11 contributors combined (The maximum an individual was allowed to give was $10,000). In a settlement with the Government Accountability Board, Walker’s campaign contributed the $28,150 in excessive contributions to the Common School Fund.
In addition to the penalty for excessive contributions, Walker’s campaign also paid a $237.50 penalty for accepting two corporate contributions in October 2014 that totaled $95.
The campaign received $50 from Krizworks, LLC, of Fort Mill, S.C., a religious organization, and $45 from Duggan, Inc., of Liberty Lake, Wash.
