Senator Holperin was elected to the Assembly from 1982 through 1992 and was first elected to the Senate in 2008.

He was unopposed in the primary and faced Republican opposition in the general election.

Advancing Wisconsin ($2,204), Keep Our North Strong ($65,255), Wisconsin Hospitals PAC ($1,237), Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters ($15,677) and Wisconsin Professional Police Assocation ($18,470) made independent expenditures favoring Senator Holperin.
