Lieutenant Governor Kleefisch was first elected in 2010 and survived a June 2012 recall election.

She was unopposed in the Republican primary. Candidates for lieutenant governor are elected along with their respective party's gubernatorial candidates and only run independent campaigns in their respective party's primary not in the general election.
