One lobbying group and three shadowy front groups are doing 95% of the campaign advertising in the state Supreme Court race, according to an analysis of television ads aired through March 16.

The two candidates vying for a seat on the high court have largely become bystanders in their own race. Welcome to the new politics of judicial elections.

The Supreme Court race started on the low road and has been going lower ever since. There are new allegations of wrongdoing by someone in the race almost daily now, followed by editorial tongue lashings. One complaint has been filed with the state Judicial Commission and another has been filed with a county district attorney’s office.
